Card set for Aunty Nora

My Aunty Nora (my great aunt, actually) has a special birthday tomorrow - 90 years young!  Aunty Nor likes to send people cards, so I made her a set of 10 very simple cards (envelopes included), with a variety of sentiments on them - 5 masculine and 5 feminine - and my mum popped a book of postage stamps in too :)

I had a VERY limited amount of time to make these (snowed under with marking assignments), so I went with very simple, one layer cards - took me less than 25 minutes to do them, so that's less than 2 minutes, 30 secs each!  That must be some kind of record!! Most of the stamps are from 2 Annabelle Stamps sets, but the sentiments on the masculine cards are Hero Arts and Stampin' Up.

Seeing as CASual Fridays has a challenge this week to make a card with flowers, I thought I'd submit these :)
Thanks for visiting - have a great day  :)

Magic card

I recently saw this blog post at "The Bright Side of Life" by Cathy Andronicou, and I thought it would make a great card for my soon-to-be 6 year old niece, so I gave it a go.  Cathy showed how she made her card with a fabulous photo tutorial, which I highly recommend :)

The stamps I've used are Lawn Fawn stamps - such a cute set! Going to submit this to Lawnscaping Challenge "Stamp a Scene".  However, as this is a window card, I'll be submitting this to A Blog Named Hero's "A card with a view" challenge also - I feel a bit odd submitting it without any Hero Arts stamps, but I checked the blog, and it's within the rules, so that's OK! ;)

Have a great day :)

Die cut butterfly embellishment

I made this butterfly using Hero Arts/sizzix dies that match a stamp set, but I thought I'd try using patterned paper instead of stamping and colouring, which is what I normally do with these butterflies.  I actually cut out heaps, but after faffing around with various arrangements of numerous butterflies, some layered and some not, I decided that, for this card, less is more and went with the one butterfly, but I blinged it up a bit ;)
I used some Lawn Fawn patterned paper that arrived in the mail today!  Hooray for mail from Simon Says Stamp!   The sentiment is from a Hero Arts clear set.

Shaped card

I don't do shaped cards often.  Not really my thing.  But thought I try one today as it is the only thing in A Cut Above's first week of card classes that I hadn't tried yet - I've made shaped cards before, but not using a die cut.

I thought I'd also submit this card to LilyPad Cards April’s Virginia’s View Challenge.

Window thanks

I'm happy to be able to participate in a couple of challenges this weekend - and I've managed to combine two challenges in one card today :)
A Blog named Hero has a challenge to make a card with a view - a window card, and CAS-ual Fridays has a sketch challenge this week.  Here's my combination of the two...

Thanks for visiting - have a great day :)

Thanks, Jane Austen

The stamp set, paper and matching die set, Simply Jane from PTI, just asks for this style of card.  I don't really see myself using these stamps and dies to make a CAS card! LOL!
I thought I'd try a technique shown in "A Cut Above" cardmaking class this week - die-cutting fabric.  I made a rolled rose with fabric, but I glued the fabric to cardstock first, as it is quite thin material.  I also used a wafer-thin die, and it didn't cut the fabric very well, even after running it through the Big Shot a few times, so I just cut the little fibres that were keeping it intact with my scissors.

Ribbon happy birthday

In "A Cut Above" card class, one technique highlighted was diecutting materials other than paper or card, such as ribbon or fabric, and another was to use the negative space behind a die cut shape.  I've kind of combined these by filling in the negative space in this "happy" die cut with scraps of ribbon.

 I hope you're having a lovely day - thanks for visiting :)

Using the negative space

One of the classes in "A Cut Above" online card class this week was to make use of the negative space from die-cuts.  Jennifer McGuire made a card that I loved, where she put glitter behind some die-cut cloud shapes, so I thought I'd have a crack.

**Update** I was spotted by Fawny Flickr Friday :) - see the post HERE.

Watercolour butterflies

I really loved a card made by Amber Daigre for the "A Cut Above" online card class this week - she used partial diecutting to have butterflies flying off the folded edge of her card.  I used the same principle, but off the open edge, not the folded edge.
I wanted to use this week's "Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger Watercolour Butterflies", and The Play Date Cafe's colour scheme of Flamingo Pink and Bright Orange.  Here's what I came up with.
Now, I don't own a colour spritzer, so that speckled effect on the card front is from me flicking the orange and pink Tombow markers with my index finger.  It's going to take a few days to get all that ink out from under my nail, I think! LOL!

Butterfly in a window

Hi, all,
I've had the busiest week imaginable - choir rehearsal for our ANZAC day concert next week, 3 nights out for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and work has been - how shall I put this without resorting to inelegant language - hectic.  I was very glad to be able to sit down today and get a bit inky!

I enrolled in the "A Cut Above" online class when it was first advertised, but I had hoped to participate a bit more that I have (only one card so far!), so I will try to make a couple more in the next day or two to catch up.  I really liked Shari Carroll's Butterfly card on Day 3 (she made it for the Shaped Cards tutorial, but it also fits with Day 2's class on Window cards), so I thought I'd go with that idea, but on an acetate card.

I will be submitting this card to Annabelle Stamps Blog challenge - "A stamped background", and to A Blog named Hero's Challenege #2 - "Cards with a view".

Have a great weekend :)

A Cut Above!

I'm participating in Online Card Classes' "A Cut Above" - I really don't know how much I'm going to get to play along, but I made an ultra-quick card in between work today and choir tonight, so thought I'd post it before bedtime.  I used the Happy Birthday Cupcakes set from Hero Arts and Sizzix.

Happy birthday, Bek ;)

My choir buddy, Bek, had a party last night, and a few of us put in together to get her a gift.  My job was to make a card, and I know that Bek loves ladybirds, so I went with that :)

I'll submit this to PaperPlay Challenge's "things with wings" challenge.

Sponge a layer for JUGS

This week, Just Us Girls has a challenge to make a card using sponging to create a false layer effect. I've used this technique before, and I love it, so I was quite happy to give it another go.
I used Tattered Rose Distress Ink to do the sponging, the stamped the blossom stamp (from a Stampin' Up set - can't remember the name of the set, sorry) and then coloured the blossoms with RV11 and RV29 Copics, with highlights with my Uniball Signo broad white gel pen. The sentiment is from Amuse Art Stamps.
