Watercolouring with Distress Markers

I love my Zig markers. Love. But because I love them, I tend not to reach for my distress markers as much any more. Fixed that today.

I wanted to use slightly more muted colours today. I used the Floral Mix Background stamp from Simon Says Stamp, along with a sentiment die also from Simon Says Stamp, and a sentiment stamp from Birch Press.

I  made a bunch of Christmas cards back in November in four different colour schemes: I used Distress Oxide ink in Worn Lipstick, Broken China, Twisted Citron and Cracked Pistachio.

 I'm still not sure which one is my favourite - which is yours?

Fusion: Autumn Leaves

Welcome to a new challenge at Fusion!

I created a bokeh effect background on a dark blue notecard from Hero Arts, using white pigment ink, and Distress Oxide inks in Salty Ocean and Broken China. I then stamped the leaves from Stampin' Up and gold embossed, before adding some yellow and orange distress markers and spraying with water to blend. I fussy cut them and added them with a die-cut branch, before gold embossing the sentiment from Studio Katia.

Fusion - Interlocking Hearts

Welcome to another challenge at the Fusion challenge blog!

I began with the "Elaborate" cling stamp from Penny Black, which I stamped in Versamark and white heat embossed onto some watercolour cardstock. I then added some colour with Distress Markers, and spritzed with plenty of water, heat set, then repeated until I was happy with the depth of colour. I particularly concentrated on the pattern of hearts in the background stamp.
The "you" was die cut from some Stampin' Up Basic Grey cardstock with Wplus9 "hand lettered thanks die", then I added some Wink of Stella to it.  I stamped and white heat embossed the words "are loved" using Concord and 9th "Perfectly Penned" stamp set. I mounted the panel on a Blush Hero Arts notecard, added some faux stitching detail and some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh, and I was done.

Fusion - Golden wattle

Welcome to a new challenge at Fusion! For today's challenge, we're going green and gold! I took the colours of the inspiration photo and interpreted the sketch to make this fusion.

I used the Beautiful Bouquet: Dahlia set from Wplus9, teamed with a sentiment from Avery Elle "Oh Happy Day". I white embossed the bouquet on some watercolor cardstock, and then coloured the flowers and leaves with various yellow and green Distress Markers, and then sprayed with lots of water, then dried with a heat gun (this is one of my favourite techniques). I repeated these steps until I was happy with the depth and variation of colour.  (I added a tiny bit of pale blue as a shadow.) I then mounted the panel on a pale yellow notecard from Hero Arts.

Bouquet of thanks

I recently used up almost all of my stash of thank you cards, so I'm trying to build it up again.  I also recently got the "Hello Lovely" stamp set from Concord & 9th in the mail, and the "hand lettered thanks die" from Wplus9 has been sitting in my box of dies unloved for much too long.  So I put them together, and I think they make a lovely pair!

I used one of my favourite techniques - heat emboss the image in white, then scribble colour on using Distress Markers, then spray with heaps of water, dry with a heat gun and repeat until happy. I mounted the panel onto a pool notecard from Hero Arts, and added a strip of silver glimmer paper from Stampin' Up.
I cut the sentiment from some Basic Gray cardstock from Stampin' Up, and then covered it with a generous coat of Wink of Stella.  I added three sequins from Pretty Pink Posh because you can never have enough glimmer and shine.

Wintry bouquet

I just got a few stamps and supplies in the mail this week, including this absolute beauty of a stamp from Concord & 9th, called "Hello, Lovely".  As soon as I saw this set, I knew it had to be mine.  It is just stunning.  I decided to add some icy blues and cool greens - wintry colours - to join in with the latest challenge at "Where Creativity Meets C9".

Sympathy cards

I hate making sympathy cards when I actually need them. So when a friend asked me this week if she could have a couple of sympathy cards, I made a bunch of them so I would have some if needed (touch wood).

 I used the Beautiful Bouquet Ranunculus stamp from Wplus9, along with the Avery Elle With Sympathy set. I decided I liked it enough to make it in a few different colours. I used my MISTI to stamp the flowers and sentiment in Versamark ink, and then carefully added coloured embossing powder to the sentiment (Blush from Zing, Rose Gold from Simon Says Stamp, and Liquid Platinum from Ranger), and Hero Arts white embossing powder to the flowers, then heat setting both. I then coloured the image with Distress markers, and then sprayed the watercolour paper with water to blend the colours, before heat setting.    Most of the card bases are from Hero Arts (except the purple one, with is Stampin' Up cardstock).

Happy birthday, Aunty Shirley!

My Aunty Shirley has a special birthday this month, so I made her a special birthday card.

I used "Beautiful Bouquet: Ranunculus" from Wplus9, stamped a couple of times and then heat embossed onto some Canson watercolour cardstock. I then added colour using my Distress Markers, and then spread the colour using a wet paint brush. I finished with a sentiment from Gina K "Lots of Lines" stamped in Hero Arts intense black ink.

Butterfly birthday card for Stella

This card looks absolutely nothing like I envisaged it would look like before I started! I made it for my friend Stella, whose birthday is today - happy birthday, Stella!

I made a video to show you the process, and to explain how it was that this card resisted my efforts to make it!  This 9 minute video actually started life being longer than an hour! Seriously!
