Happy birthday little girl for Paper Rose

 Today, I'm sharing a cute little birthday card for Paper Rose Studio.

I stamped the little girl from the Flowers for Teddy Clear Stamp set onto some white cardstock with a Copic friendly black ink. I coloured the image with Copic markers, paper pieced her dress with some paper from the Hello Little Girl card kit, and trimmed the image down. I cut a second piece of white cardstock to be slightly larger, and coloured the edges with the darkest pink that I used in the image. I adhered the two panels together and added a border of faux stitching with a white gel pen. I used the same patterned paper that I used for her dress to cover half of the card front, adhered the image over the top, and added a sentiment from the same card kit.

Patterned paper piecing

 I discovered a couple of weeks ago that my stash of birthday cards was particularly depleted, so I used a technique shown in an Online Card Class last year by Kristina Werner to make a bunch of cards super quickly! I pulled out patterned papers from some 6x6 packs in my stash (all now discontinued), making sure that I chose papers from the same pad for each card so that I knew they would match (I'm not good at putting patterned papers together!)

Using this technique, you get 3 cards from the 3 patterned papers - you just mix them up to get 3 layouts - so I made 24 cards in total!

Pale watercolour for Paper Rose

I have two cards to share for Paper Rose today - and they are non-identical twins!

I first created a panel of watercolour paper with a very soft ombre wash of pink and pale orange watercolour (I used Distress Inks as watercolours). I cut it with the Blooming Flowers Background die, and also cut a piece of white cardstock with the same die. I adhered the white die onto a white card front, and chose some pieces of the floral images from the watercolour panel and adhered them in place into the main panel.  I added a sentiment from Black and White Sentiments and some clear sequins.

After making the first card, I had the leftover piece of watercolour panel, so I made another card to keep my first card company!

Tulips from Paper Rose

I love this Tulip Circle Die from Paper Rose Studio - it just calls out to be paper pieced!

I had some leftover pieces of yupo with red and green alcohol inks, so I placed them strategically  under the Tulip Circle die to get red flowers and green leaves. I also cut the die from white cardstock, and from a piece of cardstock that I had used an ink blending tool to create a soft blue background.  I then adhered the die cut to a white panel, and paper pieced the blue piece and the yupo pieces into the negative spaces. I added a simple stamped sentiment from the Poppies clear stamp set, and then adhered the whole panel to a pale blue card base. I added some faux stitching lines with a white gel pen as a finishing touch.

Online Card Class - Day 3

Today's technique for the Online Card Class involves stamping and fussy cutting and paper piecing/layering, and is not one I will be using often, sadly. I didn't make a scene out of my pieces like Yana did in her video, I just made some custom patterned paper. It took AGES AND AGES to do! But I did get four cards out of the process, so that's something!

For the patterned piece, I used a background stamp from Simon Says Stamp (with the circles) to do my cutting. The cardstock is all from Stampin' Up. The pink pieces are stamped with a floral background stamp from Hero Arts, and the teal and pool pieces are stamped with a dotty background stamp from Hero Arts. The sentiment strips are all from Taylored Expressions. The Happy die is from Honey Bee Stamps.

The hello die is from Paper Rose Studio. 

The Seriously die is from Picket Fence Studios.

The Thanks die is from Simon Says Stamp.

Paper piecing and a cupcake

I've been stuck at home the past week or so with a horrible cold/virus with a side order of sinus infection.  Feeling miserable with not much sleep, so haven't been able to do much except watch some DVDs and bludge on my computer (whilst also trying to write a marking scheme for an exam question that I will have to mark shortly).  Decided today that I would try to do something productive and make a card.

Two challenges caught my eye - Just Add Ink's theme is Just Add Cupcakes/Cake/Dessert, and CAS on Sunday's theme is Paper Piecing. I put them together and came up with this:

 I combined some paper piecing with some Copic colouring using the "Hello Cupcake" set from My Favorite Things.

 Now, a question for you.  I normally take photos of cards using a white on white approach, but today I put the card on wood, with my usual quilted white in the background (that cardstock is from Cristina Re), and I really like the result!  I think the colours in the card came out brighter in the photo on the wood.  Maybe it's just because this card has a LOT of white (but then again, many of my cards have a lot of white!)  Which do you prefer?

Hero Arts and Lawn Fawn - a match made in heaven!

All of the design team members at A Blog Named Hero are so excited to be doing a collaboration with Lawn Fawn!  I just LOVE Lawn Fawn, and I have a bunch of their stamps, dies and papers.  I used a few different Lawn Fawn products on this card, along with a Hero Arts sentiment and Hero Arts Magical Background (one of my all-time favourite Hero Arts stamps!)

I don't know how well it shows in the photo, but I did the background by colouring in the Magical Background stamp in a few different colours of blue Distress Marker, and then sprayed with Perfect Pearls, so the little dots have a little shimmer to them :)

There's just something about the Blue Skies stamp set that makes me happy :)  And I always seem to end up with a rainbow of colours on the balloons!

Using up scraps for a sketch and a challenge

I made an engagement card the other day with a paper pieced balloon (stamp from Lawn Fawn).  I had all the left over bits of cut-out paper from the last card, so I thought I'd make another with the scraps.  Then I saw this week's Retro Sketches challenge, and it fit my left-over paper pieces perfectly (I took the sketch quite literally!) I also added some glittery goodness behind the diecut clouds for the Glitter challenge at Addicted to CAS.

Do you use up scraps, or do you prefer to start each card with fresh product?
