Paper piecing and a cupcake

I've been stuck at home the past week or so with a horrible cold/virus with a side order of sinus infection.  Feeling miserable with not much sleep, so haven't been able to do much except watch some DVDs and bludge on my computer (whilst also trying to write a marking scheme for an exam question that I will have to mark shortly).  Decided today that I would try to do something productive and make a card.

Two challenges caught my eye - Just Add Ink's theme is Just Add Cupcakes/Cake/Dessert, and CAS on Sunday's theme is Paper Piecing. I put them together and came up with this:
I combined some paper piecing with some Copic colouring using the "Hello Cupcake" set from My Favorite Things.

Now, a question for you.  I normally take photos of cards using a white on white approach, but today I put the card on wood, with my usual quilted white in the background (that cardstock is from Cristina Re), and I really like the result!  I think the colours in the card came out brighter in the photo on the wood.  Maybe it's just because this card has a LOT of white (but then again, many of my cards have a lot of white!)  Which do you prefer?
Here they are side by side:
Thanks for visiting - have a great day :)

  1. First I love your coloring and paper piecing of this little girl...now surprisingly I really like the card on the wood! I have been always using white base and white background...I may just change it up, it does make a difference! Cute card!

  3. Very cute Michelle! Love your paper pieced images. I'm a wood fan too Michelle, l always find white on white gives a pink tinge and generally do white on dark..:0) Thanks for playing along with our Just Add Ink challenge this week.

  5. I love this little girl and her cupcake Michelle (have it myself and really must pull her out again and ink her up). You've done a fabulous job paper piecing. I really like the wood, and have used it a number of times myself, always searching for some way to make my poor photography skills look a whole lot better.

Hope you're feeling loads better soon. Thanks for joining the challenge fun at Just Add Ink while you've been feeling so miserable :)

  7. I love your gorgeous CAS card with all of that white! And I personally like the photo on the wood too. I find if I have a card that has a white background it photographs much better on a coloured background, especially a black one!
Thanks for joining us this week at Just Add Ink :)
