Happy birthday, Princess Emily

A workmate and friend of mine asked me today if I would make a birthday card for her daughter, Emily, who is turning 21 on Wednesday.  It had to have a princess on it, and had to be glittery!  This is what I made:
I had to take another photo - the Wink of Stella glitter brush I added to Aurora's dress didn't show up in either of the previous 2 photos!  (her skirt is a bit glittery too!)  The Wink of Stella adds such a subtle glitter - so lovely in real life, but almost impossible to adequately photograph!
I will be submitting this card to Addicted to CAS - codeword: Glitter, and to CASual Friday's Count me in challenge - all the glitter makes it look not-so-CAS, but the layout is pretty simple!

So, do you prefer Princess Aurora in pink or blue? (Personally, I prefer blue, but the birthday girl prefers pink!)  I hope you're having a day fit for a princess - thanks for visiting! :)

Using up scraps for a sketch and a challenge

I made an engagement card the other day with a paper pieced balloon (stamp from Lawn Fawn).  I had all the left over bits of cut-out paper from the last card, so I thought I'd make another with the scraps.  Then I saw this week's Retro Sketches challenge, and it fit my left-over paper pieces perfectly (I took the sketch quite literally!) I also added some glittery goodness behind the diecut clouds for the Glitter challenge at Addicted to CAS.

Do you use up scraps, or do you prefer to start each card with fresh product?

I hope you've had a great weekend :)

Week 3, Day 5 - a new colour scheme

For day 5 of week 3 of Summer Card Camp 2 (sniff, nearly over!), I decided to go with a one-layer card, and I used the colour scheme pink, green, pale brown, dark brown and white.  I used Distress Inks and my aqua brush for the flowers and stems, but I went around the border with a Copic marker.  I also added some subtle glitter all over the poppies with my Wink of Stella glitter brush (you can see it in the 2nd photo).

I'll be submitting this to Addicted to CAS - Code word: Glitter.  I was also going to submit it to Keep It Simple for their one layer challenge, but I missed the deadline.  Rats.

 I hope you're having a lovely day :)

Week 3, Day 4, a challenge

Today's online card class challenge is to go outside your comfort zone.  I'm having difficulty with this week's colour palette, but I assume that doesn't count! LOL!
I find geometric designs tricky (I'm much more of a flowers, leaves, hearts and butterfies girl!), and I also find using multiple patterned papers together a real challenge (takes me AGES to settle on a combination).  So I decided to try both together to really stretch myself, and the patterned papers even come from not just three different sets, but from three separate companies!!!
I used the sketch from CAS(e) this sketch, but I missed the submission deadline by a day :(   However, I'll be submitting this card to Moxie Fab World's Trendy Triangles Challenge.
Thanks so much for visiting - have a great day!

Some paper piecing for an engagement!

A very happy card today - for a very happy engagement!

I'll be submitting this to Lawnscaping's paper piecing challenge.

 Have a great day!

Class colours and a sketch

Trying to use the Online card class colours again - not the easiest colours!! I had a look through my patterned paper stash, but couldn't find what I wanted - so I made some modifications!! I used some paper from Basic Grey's Hipster collection - but I coloured in the teeny tiny pink flowers to make them two different shades of purple ;)
The sketch is from CAS(e) this sketch challenge #37.
I'll be submitting this card to Moxie Fab World's Birthday Card Challenge.

Online card class - week 3, day 1

I was a bit unsure about this week's Summer Card Camp colour scheme when I first saw it!  hmmm!! But then, whilst going through a Hero Arts Blog Hop this morning, I came across such a gorgeous card by Kathy Racoosin of The Daily Marker (check it out HERE), I was inspired to make this:

Mine is a lot simpler than Kathy's masterpiece, but I'm happy I was able to stick to the class colour scheme :)
I'll submit this card to Moxie Fab World's Birthday Card Challenge :)

Another card for Week 2, Day 4

I thought I'd have a look through my scraps of pretty wrapping paper and other materials I keep from gifts to see if I had something from a Christmas gift to make into a card for today's Online Card Class challenge - I found some cool green mesh-y stuff that was once on a present, and this is what I came up with:

A baby card using Christmas stamps!

Another card for Online Card Class - I had a very welcome morning off work today, so got 2 cards made - yippee!  I used the colour scheme for week 2, sketch #3, and the challenge for today - make a non-holiday card using holiday product.  I used Stampin' Up Christmas stamps (a Christmas tree and snowflakes) and white emboss resist on some die cut hearts for a baby card.

 I hope you're having a great day :)

A colour scheme, a sketch and a challenge!

Week 2, day 4 of Online Card Classes Summer Card Camp 2 - I haven't been able to participate much (stoopid sore back), but there was a challenge set today, and I love a challenge, so I gritted my teeth and got inky!

The challenge was to use holiday themed product on a non-holiday card. On this card, I used Christmas stamps from Stampin' Up, Christmas patterned paper from My Mind's Eye "Lost and Found Christmas" paper pad, and PaperTrey Ink's Holiday die (I cut the "holi" bit off and just used the "day"). I stuck to this week's class colour scheme, and I used the sketch from Moxie Fab World's Birthday week sketch challenge.

Summer Card camp - week 2, day 1, card 2!

Here's the 2nd card I made last night for Summer Card Camp - using both the colour scheme of the week, and sketch 2. I didn't like this colour scheme when I first saw it, but after making 2 cards with it, it's grown on me ;)

I'll be submitting this card to Moxie Fab World's Birthday Card Challenge

Summer card camp week 2, day 1

Hi, all,
still not entirely with it, having a sore back and all, but managed to make 2 cards last night (but couldn't sit at the computer long enough to post them) - here's the first:

I used Betsy Veldmand's sketch from Moxie Fab World's Birthday Creations Week: The Birthday Sketch Challenge

I hope you're having a great day :)

Hero Arts artist challenge - Lisa Spangler

Hi, all,
here's a card I made for today's challenge at A Blog Named Hero - to find inspiration from a Hero Arts Artist. I chose the incredibly talented Lisa Spangler of Sideoats and Scribbles - you can check out the exact card I was inspired by in THIS POST. I also wanted a kind of retro 60s feel - hence the random scattered squares.
(The squares are from a discontinued  HA stamp, "Row of Five Backgrounds" H2659 - you can still get it if you look hard enough. I just inked up one square, not all 5 at a time.)

I just love the orange created by the overlap of the Pale Tomato and Butterbar shadow inks.

Here's is the card of Lisa's that I was inspired by:

Check out the ABNH challenge HERE!

There's a Simon Says Stamp voucher at stake!
