Baby elephant card

I've had - let's say - a *difficult* week this week.  "Difficult" is not exactly the word that first pops to mind, but I'm sure you can extrapolate.  Anyway, I had made a list of challenges I wanted to participate in this week, and didn't seem to get around to many of them!  So I decided that I would forget the world tonight and make some cards to fit a couple of challenges.

For this card, I started with a plain white panel and added some scored grid lines for some texture, then stamped overlapping words and sponged on some colour.  I added a simple sentiment and a very cute feltie elephant from Sassafras, and I was done. 

I'll be submitting this card to Lawnscaping's Monochromatic challenge, Just Us Girls Grid Technique challenge, Moxie Fab World's Ready Made Embellishments challenge, and CAS on Sunday Baby card challenge.

A Blog Named Hero meets Wplus9!

This week, the design team ladies at A Blog Named Hero are playing with some Wplus9 stamps - and having a ball!  This is what created with my brand new stamp set, Fresh Cut Florals:

 I love how this stamp set is designed to layer, and layer, and layer!! I masked off most of the front of the card, leaving a diagonal strip, then picked out a heap of Hero Arts shadow ink colours and got stamping :)

CASE study challenge

I only just saw this week's CASE study challenge - I've had my head buried under a pile of assignments to mark, but I decided that, after having a headache all day, I would much rather make a card than mark more assignments tonight! 

You can see that I went with the multi-coloured stripes on the card by September's CASE study muse, the talented Kathy Racoosin.  I decided to pick up on the black stripes by making a black filigree butterfly the focal point, with some heavy, shiny vellum behind it. I added some Wink of Stella glitter to the black butterfly to brighten it up a bit. This is the first time I've used this pair of dies (the "Chrissy" and "Leanna" butterflies from Simon Says Stamp), and I'm already loving them!

Masculine birthday tree

I have a few male friends with birthdays coming up, so I made a few cards with this design.  This tree was cut using a die from Memory Box and Cherry wood veneer paper from Simon Says Stamp - this stuff is very cool! Such lovely texture!

I coloured the leaves with 2 different copic markers, and the Happy Birthday is from a Hero Arts set called Birthday Sayings, stamped in Versafine ink in Vintage Sepia.

A bunch of simple cards

I made a bunch of cards of the weekend using some GORGEOUS paper from Cristina Re - some of this paper is now discontinued, but I just love it.  It makes cardmaking very easy, as you can just let the paper take centre stage.

I decided to just make a pile of cards for a variety of occasions, but with the exact same card layout.  The only differences are what paper I used, and the wording and placement of the sentiment.  Just goes to show what a difference colour and pattern can make on a very simple card!

 This gorgeous paper has a shiny, slightly metallic base, but the flowers and butterflies are flocked - just beautiful!

 BTW, this card uses the reverse side of the paper used in the 2nd card in this post - see above - much more subtle colour this way. 

And then I decided I was on a roll, so I did some in landscape orientation as well. 

 I added some Wink of Stella glitter brush to the centres of the flowers on this "Sky Blossom" paper.

(On the offchance that anyone at Cristina Re is reading this (you never know!), PLEASE bring back Sky Blossom!  I'm so miserable that it was discontinued!)
