Challenge me a Christmas Card is back, this time with a card using my oldest Christmas stamp. I was challenged to dig out my oldest Christmas stamp by Susan Rahaila, and I was challenged to make a Christmas carol-themed card by my choir buddy, Di.
This "Deck the halls" stamp is by an Australian company called Stamp-It. When I first started making cards, it was Christmas cards, but I used to do calligraphy, or illuminated letters, or dry embossing with little metal plates and a stylus. It was a bit of a leap for me to use a rubber stamp on a card, but I'm glad I did!
There is still a small part of me that dislikes this stamp, though - I have been a member of numerous choirs over the years, and every good chorister knows that the line in the carol is NOT "Deck the Halls" - it is "Deck the Hall". I have come very close to attacking this stamp with a craft knife to excise the offending "s", but I have refrained (mainly because I was scared the knife would slip and I would damage the rest of the stamp!)

Challenge me a Christmas Card 1
Welcome to part one of my series, Challenge me a Christmas Card. A few weeks ago, I asked my friends on Facebook to set me a challenge - a specific challenge to make a Christmas card with a specific theme, or technique, or product to use.
So, today, I'm starting off with the challenge set by my friend Alice - to use embroidery thread on a Christmas card.
I started by drawing a triangle on some kraft cardstock, then piercing holes along the perimeter before erasing my pencil lines. I then coloured some white bakers twine with some green Copics (I didn't have any green embroidery thread!) and joined up the pierced holes with a random pattern. I then stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts, and added a die cut star, cut from some shiny gold cardstock. I decided I needed some detail around the edges, so I used a couple of stitched rectangles dies from Lil' Inkers to cut down the kraft panel and a piece of metallic ivory coloured cardstock. I assembled the layers using some fun foam behind the kraft panel, and then added a bunch of gold pearls from Kaiserkraft.
I will have more "Challenge me a Christmas Card" posts throughout November, so stay tuned!
I'll be sharing this card at Hero Arts for their Holiday Challenge

With sympathy
Sympathy cards are difficult. I try to make them pretty simple, but when I made this one, I just stamped the fern leaf and the sentiment in a blend of blue and green Hero Arts Shadow Inks, and it was just too simple.
I added some silver gel pen detail on the leaf and extended the silver dotted line to the edge of the card, but I needed more detail. So I added some blended Distress Inks to the bottom edge of the card (under the leaf and the silver lines), but it needed more. So I put the Rain Dance stencil from Hero Arts over the Distress Ink area, and removed some ink with a baby wipe, and I decided I was done.
